Our history
Jolly Scarpe Spa was established in the Montebelluna area, in the province of Treviso, about 40 km from Venice.
The Montebelluna footwear district is known worldwide as a technical hub of highly technical sports footwear; many world-renowned brands such as Nike and Salomon have relocated their research and development offices here.
Jolly Shoes, founded in 1982 by the Zanatta family, initially specialized in the production of sports footwear (hiking and cycling) and motorcycle boots for prestigious brands such as BMW® and Triumph®. The mid-1990s saw the birth of the “JOLLY SAFETY FOOTWEAR®” line of safety footwear: CE-marked products, certified by accredited laboratories, made of highly technical materials combined with innovative construction methods using Gore-Tex® linings: thus the new line of products for Police and Firefighters was born.
Jolly Shoes, through a network of loyal dealers, makes its footwear known and supplies to many entities in Italy and abroad. In 2007 Jolly Shoes began participating in national tenders for supplies for the Ministry of the Interior – Department of Fire, supplying, to date 220,000 pairs of intervention boots for firefighters and for the Department of Public Safety supplying, to date, 75,000 pairs of boots for motorized cars.
In 2006, Jolly Shoes became part of the Novation SPA group, a leader in technical industrial sectors (plastics, carbon and metal processing) for the automotive, sports and safety sectors.
In 2013, Jolly Shoes, with a view to expanding its market, acquired the Cosmas brand, a company specializing in professional safety, armed forces and defense footwear. The company and the Cosmas brand were established in 1971 in Maser, in the Montebelluna district. Initially the company distinguished itself by producing hiking and outdoor shoes of the highest quality, and from 1990 onward it specialized in the production of D.P.I., becoming benchmark and leading brand for ultra-high-tech footwear for military and defense forces.
Jolly Shoes thus enters the production and marketing of military footwear thanks to the know-how and experience of Cosmas by supplying the Carabinieri General Command with more than 200,000 pairs over the past 10 years.
Cosmas is recognized as the official supplier of many special corps of the Italian Ministry of Defense ; constant research of new materials and development of innovative products lead to the creation of new models with performances designed specifically for individual special forces.

In 2016, Jolly Scarpe S.p.A. was acquired by Minerva S.A., a Swiss footwear company founded in 1908 that became owned by the Aerni family in 1945. Thus was born the Minerva Group, which includes Minerva S.A. in Switzerland, Jolly Scarpe Spa in Italy and Jolly Scarpe Romania Srl, a production unit of more than 5,000 m2.
In February 2024, Jolly Scarpe Spa and Jolly Scarpe Romania Srl are acquired by the American company Lakeland Industries, a company that specializes in the production of safety workwear, thus offering a wide range of products for both firefighters and occupational safety.
Lakeland is a global leader in the production of protective clothing to help improve the quality of safety for the industrial workforce, including electric and gas utilities, petrochemicals, hazardous waste sites, chemical handling, clean rooms, fire services and road crews.
Backed by 40 years of experience in high-performance workwear, Lakeland stands by its customers to provide the safest possible work environment for employees.
